Body discovered in Vic reservoir
A body found in a Victorian reservoir may be that of a man who drowned in front of his family while trying to swim for help from their stranded boat.
The Shepparton man was in the boat with three family members on Waranga Basin when the motor failed on New Year's Day.
He tried to swim to shore to seek help, but turned back to the boat and disappeared in the water while his family watched.
Victorian Police reported a strong current in the reservoir, near Rushworth, due to water being pumped in and out of the catchment.
Police called off the search for the 28-year-old man on Sunday.
The body was retrieved from the water on Wednesday after a local fisherman found it at about 9am (AEDT).
The missing man's family have been notified of the discovery but the body has not yet been identified.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
