Boat ablaze on Sydney river

Firefighters are tackling a boat fire in Parramatta River in Sydney’s inner west.

Crews attended the scene late this afternoon, where a small-sized boat was burning off Birkenhead Point, near a marina.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said there did not appear to be any injuries and the fire had not yet been deemed suspicious.

However, NSW Fire and Rescue will complete an investigation before deciding the cause of the fire.

The fire has been brought under control but not extinguished.

Heavy smoke is affecting visibility in the area, and the Hazmat team is placing booms to prevent any spills spreading.
