'We don't want to see the rally take place' :WA stands by protest decision

WA Premier Mark McGowan is urging people not to attend upcoming Black Lives Matter protests across the state.

Mr McGowan said the rally should be delayed until after the COVID-19 risk has subsided and noted that police will act accordingly to keep the public safe.

"We are encouraging people not to attend the rally – We are asking the people organising the rally to use some common sense and delay the rally until after the COVID-19 period," Mr McGowan said.

The premier also clarified that WA Health Minister Roger Cook would not be going to the rally despite his wife planning to attend.

"In the case of Roger Cook he has had a long history of supporting Indigenous groups in the community," Mr McGowan said.

"Mr Cook issued a statement yesterday clarifying that he does not endorse the rally."

Western Australia recorded another day of zero new cases of COVID-19 overnight.

Nine people have recovered from the virus overnight and the state's total cases now stands at 601.

There are still 21 active cases, all in hotel quarantine

None of the infected are in hospital.
