Bishop should fly to Jakarta: Xenophon
AAP
Independent senator Nick Xenophon is urging Foreign Minister Julie Bishop to hightail it to Jakarta in a last-ditch attempt to convince Indonesia to spare the lives of Australians Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan.
The Australian government should seek the intervention of Indonesia's Judicial Commission to stay the executions of the Bali Nine ringleaders following allegations the judicial process was tainted with corruption, Senator Xenophon told reporters in Canberra on Monday.
However, Indonesia law expert Tim Lindsey from the University of Melbourne says that's not legally possible because the commission is an oversight body without judicial powers.
