Poll indicates Bronwyn Bishop's days as MP could be numbered

Former speaker Bronwyn Bishop is facing electoral annihilation in her NSW seat of Mackellar and could potentially be unseated by businessman Dick Smith, according to a new poll.

In a survey conducted for News Corp just 21 per cent of those polled said they would give their primary vote to Ms Bishop, while a whopping 69 per cent believed she should retire.

In contrast, 54 per cent said they would give Dick Smith their primary vote if he contested the election, according to the MediaReach poll of 877 people in Mackellar on Monday.

Mr Smith has not yet announced his intention to run in Mackellar but said in January it was likely he would stand if Ms Bishop was preselected.
