'Bikies' fined over Gold Coast brawl

Two alleged bikies who sparked a public brawl and a massive Queensland government crackdown have been fined a combined $1500.

Jason Trouchet and Matthew Sward were dining in a Gold Coast restaurant in September last year when they were approached by members of a rival gang, the Bandidos.

The men went outside where dozens of Bandidos members were waiting and Trouchet threw the first punch, sparking an all-in street brawl in front of diners.

Dozens were arrested over that incident and another public disturbance outside the Southport watchhouse the same night.

Trouchet, 40, and Sward, 26, pleaded guilty to affray in Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Trouchet was fined $1000 and Sward $500.

Following the brawls, the Queensland government declared war on bikies and introduced a raft of strict laws targeting gang members.

The controversial measures include mandatory jail terms for members who gather in public, tougher prison sentences, strict bail laws and solitary confinement for prisoners with gang associations.
