The "completely callous" attitude of wind farmers towards claims of turbine illnesses reminds Liberal Democrat David Leyonhjelm of Big Tobacco's denial that cigarettes cause lung cancer.

Senator Leyonhjelm, writing in The Australian on Wednesday, accuses "Big Wind" of brushing off the concerns of people living near wind turbines by arguing the science is not yet well understood.

The crossbench senator, who helped establish a parliamentary inquiry into wind turbines, believes wind farmers are beyond reproach because they are seen to be part of the renewable energy sector.
