Beyonce grabs ARIA chart top spot

Beyonce's self-titled fifth album has climbed two places to claim top spot for the year's first ARIA chart.

It's the first ARIA No.1 album of Beyonce's career with the album also hitting No.1 on the US Billboard 200 chart when she surprised fans with the release on December 13.

Katy Perry holds at No.2 with Prism and completing a female top three this week is Lorde, who jumps six places to No.3 with Pure Heroine.

At No.4 is One Direction with Midnight Memories, Eminem is at No.5 with The Marshall Mathers LP 2 and at No.6 is Taylor Henderson's self-titled album.

Imagine Dragons jumped 13 places to No.7 with Night Visions, and True by Avicii is up eight places to No.8.

The Twelfth Man dropped five places to No.9 with his collection Willy Nilly - The 12th Man's Biggest Hits and rounding out the top 10, up two places, is James Blunt with Moon Landing.

In the singles charts, Pharrell Williams scores his third chart-topping appearance with Happy which has notched up 10 weeks at the top.

It's the first solo No.1 for Williams, who last May appeared at the top as guest vocalist on the Daft Punk track Get Happy and with Robin Thicke and T.I. on Blurred Lines.

Happy is from Despicable Me 2 and it's the first time a song from a soundtrack has reached No.1 this decade. The last one was in April 2009 when The Pussycat Dolls rendition of Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire was at the top for two weeks.

After a week at No.1, Jason Derulo fell to No.2 with Trumpets. The remaining top 10 remain stable. Magic and John Legend stay at No.3 and No.4 respectively. At No.5 is Eminem and Rihanna's The Monster, and at No.6 is Pitbull & Ke$ha's Timber. Guy Sebastian, Avicii, Katy Perry and Rudimental with Emeli Sande fill out the rest of the top 10.
