Better pay deal for defence reservists

Australia's part-time soldiers will be paid more for defending the nation, with a doubling of their daily allowance.
Assistant Defence Minister Stuart Robert says the reserve allowance will rise from $13.15 to $26.56 per day - 75 per cent of the current full-time service allowance.
As well, separation allowances paid to reservists when on extended duty will be aligned with those paid to fulltime personnel.

Mr Robert said on Friday that this would benefit reservists and reduce red tape.
"These changes have been achieved through a fair and transparent process that ensures remuneration reflects an ADF member's service obligation and contribution," he said.
