A new study by fintech firm, Citro, found New South Wales and Queensland were the most desired locations because of the lifestyle benefits and affordable housing.
10. Echuca
Echuca in regional Victoria ranked 10th as the top retirement spot.
The average house price comes to around $586,000 and weekly rent sits at $639.
9. Launceston
The township of Launceston in Tasmania is ideal for those looking for a scenic retirement with a strong community vibe.
Retirees can also expect to spend less on housing with the median house price at $524,000 and median rent at $487 per week.
8. Wallaroo
Taking 8th place is Wallaroo, the seaside paradise on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia.
In this dreamy coastal town, the average home costs $449,000 and median weekly rent is around $410.
7. Mandurah
Mandurah in Western Australia is highly sought after by retirees looking for a coastal escape.
The average price for a home is $657,000 and weekly median rent is $596.
6. Rosebud
The seaside town of Rosebud on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula ranks 6th place.
The media house price is $777,000 and weekly rent is about $567.
5. Belconnen
Belconnen in the ACT is appealing for its developed infrastructure and recreational facilities.
An average home in this suburb of Canberra costs $522,000 and rent is around $553 per week.

An average home costs about $352,000 and weekly rent is as low as $381.
2. Ingham
Known as the "Little Italy" of tropical north Queensland, Ingham is the 2nd most sought after spot to retire.
The rural town has a media house price as low as $235,000 and weekly rent is about $392.
