Outspoken Liberal senator Cory Bernardi won't be crossing the floor of the Senate over the federal government's controversial superannuation reforms after all ... he won't be in the country.

"It might be good for the government," he quipped on Sky News on Thursday.

Senator Bernardi is heading off for three months to see the workings of the United Nations at a time when Treasurer Scott Morrison is trying to convince his backbench over the need to rein in super tax concessions, including capping after tax contributions to a $500,000 lifetime cap, something the senator opposes.
