Bernardi not sure plebiscite will get up

Anti-same sex marriage Liberal Cory Bernardi is not convinced a planned plebiscite on same-sex marriage will pass.
"They (same-sex marriage advocates) know if it went to a plebiscite, it wasn't successful, it will likely kill the issue for many many years," Senator Bernardi told Sky News on Sunday, noting the same thing happened with the republic referendum .
Labor frontbencher Anthony Albanese says a majority of both houses of parliament support marriage equality, and the opposition has a bill to pursue a parliamentary vote rather than wasting money on a plebiscite.
