Bernardi labels halal boss 'corrupt liar'

Controversial Liberal senator Cory Bernardi has accused the head of the Halal Certification Authority of being a corrupt liar.

Senator Bernardi told the Senate on Wednesday that Mohamed Elmouelhy has been defaming him on social media, calling him an "Islamophobe" and accusing him of sending racist emails.

The senator labelled Mr Elmouelhy an "industry shonk" and a "conman", accusing him of corruption.
