A man and woman have been charged after two police officers ended up in hospital last night following a shocking road-side attack in Bendigo.

One of the officers was struck by a car, while the other found himself a hostage inside a moving vehicle when they attempted to arrest the driver who had been spotted driving erratically.

The highway command officers pulled over a blue Honda Civic after reports of the vehicle driving erratically.

When they attempted to arrest the 36-year-old man behind the wheel, he became violent and a struggle ensued.

They used a Taser to try and control the man but he allegedly dragged the male leading senior constable inside the vehicle and sped off - hitting the second officer as he did so.

The car travelled almost 200 metres before the officer managed to untangle himself and roll out.

He was hospitalised with cuts and grazes, while the female officer’s injuries were more serious.

"Our female officer has a broken wrist and lacerations around her face," a police spokesman told 9NEWS.

The vehicle continued south along the Calder Freeway for 20 kilometres before a back-up police car caught up with them near Fogarty’s Gap Road.

Police arrested the 36-year-old male driver and the 24-year-old female passenger.

The charges include assaulting police, intentionally causing injury, committing an indictable offence while on bail, reckless conduct causing serious injury and failing to stop for police.

The two officers have since been released from hospital.

The Broadmeadows man was refused bail and scheduled to appear at Bendigo Magistrates Court on Monday.

The woman was granted bail and is scheduled to appear at court on 15 October.
