Former NRL player Ben Barba has been charged with two public nuisance offences and handed a three-month ban from the Townsville nightclub precinct after an incident on Australia Day.

Barba was sacked by the North Queensland Cowboys and deregistered by the NRL after officials viewed CCTV which allegedly showed him throwing rocks at his partner.

Barba handed himself into Mackay police today.

9News understands Barba’s partner Ainslie Currie has not made a complaint against him.

A furious Barba told 9News yesterday he had “lost everything” and threatened 9News reporter Tim Arvier, saying: "Do you want me to hurt you?"
