Iconic Sydney eatery BBQ King closes its doors after 40 years

A Sydney institution famous for its Peking duck has closed its doors overnight after 40 years.

BBQ King, located on Liverpool Street since its move from nearby Goulburn Street in 2016, has been a Chinatown favourite for decades.

The restaurant announced it was closing in a short message posted to its Facebook page last night.

"After 40 years, BBQ King is sad to announce we have served our last Peking duck," it wrote.

"We are so very humbled to have all of your support over these years. Thank you and goodbye."

Fans and frequent customers let tributes for the eatery, sharing photos and thanking the restaurant for many meals over the years.

BBQ King was particularly popular on weekends, serving as a late-night pit stop for people on their way home from a night out on the town.
