Decision on Barry Humphries' state funeral after joint offer from Sydney and Melbourne
Legendary entertainer Barry Humphries will be farewelled with a State Funeral in Sydney, after an offer from the Victorian government was declined by his family.
Humphries, famed for his longstanding characters such as Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson, died aged 89 on April 22.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced last week that the funeral for the comic great would be co-hosted by the Victorian and New South Wales governments, along with the Commonwealth.

However, details of how this arrangement would work and where it would be held have been unclear.
Humphries was born and raised in Melbourne but regularly travelled between Melbourne, Sydney and London for his work.
His most famous character, Dame Edna Everage, was from the Melbourne suburb of Monee Ponds.
However, Humphries spent the final years of his life in Sydney and ultimately passed away at St Vincent's Hospital after undergoing surgery.
The Andrew government's offer to host the state funeral was ultimately declined by Humphries' family, in favour of an offer in Sydney.
The date and exact location of the state funeral have not yet been revealed.
