Barangaroo site reopens after bomb scare

Workers began returning to Sydney's harbourside Barangaroo construction site at about 12 noon, two hours after a bomb scare.

Police and emergency services were called to the site shortly after 10am on Monday after reports of a bomb threat.

Six blocks of the CBD, between Sussex and Clarence streets, were blocked off.

A police spokesman would only confirm the site was evacuated because of a `police operation'. But Lend Lease confirmed the evacuation was prompted by a bomb threat.

"As a precautionary measure, the Barangaroo South construction site has been evacuated following police advice regarding a bomb threat," a spokesman for developers Lend Lease said.

Lend Lease held a community open day on Sunday and 6500 people attended the construction site, one of Australia's largest.

It's another hiccup for the controversial site, after two fires in March also caused evacuations.
