Lindt cafe to open its doors to the public today at 10am

Premier Mike Baird and Labor Leader Luke Foley will take time from the NSW election campaign to wish staff at Sydney's Lindt Cafe well after it reopens its doors today.

The cafe will open to the public at 10am - about the same time a shotgun-wielding Man Monis ordered the doors locked shut on December 15 last year.

Monis held 18 staff and customers captive for 16 hours before the siege was ended in a hail of gunfire which claimed his life and the lives of cafe manager Tori Johnson and barrister Katrina Dawson.

Mr Baird is expected to drop by the cafe at 10am while Mr Foley will visit later in the day.

Mr Baird's handling of the siege was arguably his finest moment as premier.

He recently told AAP he was still uncomfortable passing by the cafe, which is nearby to his office and state parliament.

"I can't really look at the cafe without feeling these pangs of despair at what took place," he said.

"I know over time that will heal but ... the impacts are still pretty raw."

Mr Foley will start the day with a visit to Sydney's southwest to make an announcement about improving school infrastructure.

Mr Baird is expected to make some local announcements once he resumes campaigning later in the day.
