Baden-Clay’s parents visit for first time after conviction

Gerard Baden-Clay has been visited by his parents in prison during his first day behind bars as a convicted murderer, according to reports.

Nigel and Elaine Baden Clay arrived at Wolston Correctional Centre in Brisbane with a large envelope about 2.30pm yesterday. They stayed for roughly an hour, the Courier Mail reports.

It’s understood Baden-Clay would have been strip searched on arrival on Tuesday night, given new clothes, photographed for identification, interviewed and assessed by psychologists.

Meanwhile, it’s been revealed Baden-Clay tried to stop the jury in his murder trial from hearing from experts who found injuries on his face were typical of fingernail scratches.

Baden-Clay’s defence lawyers argued in a pre-trial hearing that jurors could make their own assessment without the assistance of experts.

The bid was rejected, allowing experts to testify they did not find the injuries consistent with shaving.

The pre-trial, held in February, can only now be reported following Baden-Clay’s conviction.
