Back high-risk offenders bill, MP says

The federal government is calling on Labor and the cross bench to back new laws to keep high-risk terror offenders behind bars beyond their prison sentences.

All 24 recommendations from a parliamentary committee into the legislation have been accepted by the government, ahead of debate in the Senate.

"We would seek to be encouraging both the opposition and the crossbenchers to support this bill, which is in the interest of Australia's national security," Liberal committee member David Fawcett told reporters on Monday.
