A contestant on the up-coming series of The Bachelorette has died after a paragliding accident.

Eric Hill was paragliding with a friend in the US state of Utah on Sunday when his chute failed to open.

Hill was left in a coma and died on Wednesday morning.

Hill’s quest to win the heart of Bachelorette Andi Dorfman in the tenth season of the reality show was due to air next month.

"We are deeply saddened to hear about the tragic passing of our friend, Eric Hill. Eric inspired us every day with his passion, his courage and his adventurous spirit, and for that we are very thankful," the show's producers said.

The 32-year-old adventurer was also competing in The Global Odyssey — an epic trek to travel through all 195 United Nations recognised countries in record time.
