Luxury day spa exclusively for babies opens its doors

A luxurious new day spa has opened in Melbourne, but it’s catering to clientele that are much younger than usual.

The city’s first “Baby Spa” has opened, catering to the every need of little ones all the way up to six months.

Founded in London in 2005 by South African swimming expert Laura Sevenus, Baby Spa offers a sanctuary for newborns with hydrotherapy and massage sessions.

Each visit begins with a 10 to 30 minute immersion in a neonatal pod, the size dependent on the client's age.

The baby is supported by a flotation device allowing them free movement, unaffected by gravity.

Once the babies are out of the water, they're treated to a gentle massage by trained therapists.

“Baby spa is what we like to call the fourth trimester,” owner Breanne Marquis told 9NEWS.

“Being able to feel back like they're in the womb, in an open body of water that really prepares them and their development for being able to be ready for swimming lessons.”

The claimed benefits of Baby Spa include development of senses, strengthening of muscles and bones and confidence building.

There are spas in London, Perth, Madrid and South Africa with plans, to open more in Melbourne and one in Sydney.

However, the experience doesn't come cheap; a single hydrotherapy and massage session costs $85 each. A package of ten treatments will set you back $720.
