Baby killer released on parole

A man who killed the baby son of his defacto wife in Wagga Wagga 14 years ago has been released on parole.

Jordan Anderson Smith’s family have long memories of their beautiful little boy, and even longer memories of his killer.

They would like to remember Jordan as rosy-cheeked and smiling, but he died in one of the most shocking deaths the state has ever seen.

The seven-month-old was tortured and killed by his mother’s defacto husband, Chistopher Hoerler.

He suffered a lacerated liver, a torn lip and his toes were crushed by a clamp.

Hoerler, 27 at the time, pleaded guilty halfway through his trial and was sentenced to 14 years and four months’ jail.

That was due to expire in February 2016. Instead, the Parole Board has granted him an early out.

Hoerler, originally from Papua New Guinea, had his visa cancelled in 2011.

Today, he was released from jail and transported to Villawood Detention Centre with plans to deport him back to his homeland.

The Smith family fears he may appeal his deportation in an attempt to remain with his family here in Australia.

They are seeking a guarantee from Immigration Minister Scott Morrison that Hoerler will be deported and that there will be no avenues for appeal.
