Man charged over 'large-scale theft of 900 cans of baby formula'

A man has been charged over the alleged large-scale theft of more than 900 cans of baby formula and other hygiene products and vitamins across Sydney.

The 34-year-old was arrested in Chester Hill after police seized 929 cans of baby formula at two businesses in Fairfield and Cabramatta in Sydney's west yesterday afternoon.

Police also found 317 oral hygiene products, including toothpaste, at the Cabramatta business and 435 oral hygiene products, 216 electric toothbrushes and 752 bottles of vitamins at the Fairfield business.

The total value of the items is estimated to be approximately $80,000.

The 34-year-old man was charged with 41 counts of shoplifting and theft as well as and driving with an expired license.

The man appeared in court today where he was formally refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court next week.

The charges come less than two months after another two men were arrested in Sydney's west after allegedly stealing more than $100,000 worth of pharmaceutical items including 1350 tins of baby formula.
