Axe-wielding bandit terrorises Sydney shop owners

An axe-wielding bandit has terrorised a shop owner and his wife during a hold-up in a Sydney convenience store.

The man, dressed in light pants and a hooded jumper, brandished a silver axe and repeatedly hit the weapon into the counter of the Namaste Bazaar convenience store in Kogarah, in the city’s south, around 9.15pm.

He eventually scrambled across the counter and frantically searched through the till, however he escaped with only $40.

Owner Binod Poudel said he and his wife were terrified.

“I told him to take the money, I told him to take all the….whatever you want, take it,” he told 9 NEWS.

Mr Poudel’s wife escaped through the back door, but he said she remained scared throughout the night.

“She is a little bit like, disturbed, you know even she is the whole night she was scared,” he said.

Mr Poudel only recently acquired the store and said he would re-think his hours after the late-night incident.
