Australia's top baby names get the royal treatment

Charlotte and Oliver take the lead as Australia's most popular names for boys and girls.

Highlighting the country's love of the British royal family, Charlotte topped the list of girl's names replacing Olivia which had been number one for three years running.

William is also climbing the ladder reaching number two on the boys list.

While it may have a ways to climb, George is also making its way up moving from 71st position in 2012 to 36th in 2015.

"I think the Royals are the ultimate celebrities and have an impact across the generations," Mark McCrindle from social research firm McCrindle told News Corp.

"Look at George - the name has risen up the ranks since Prince George was born, rising from a rank of 71 in 2012 to 36 - the highest ranking since the 1950s.

"They are classy celebrities and go for names of substance and that’s the trend at the moment."
