Spring to serve up a cooler weather change for Australia’s east

Spring is about to serve parts of Australia’s east coast with a mixed bag of cold and rainy days after recent fine weather.

Temperatures around the low- to mid-20s are forecast for a number of days areas across New South Wales and Victoria, Weatherzone meteorologist Angus McLean-Smith told 9News.com.au.

“This week we’re going to be seeing through NSW and Melbourne some cloud and rain,” he said.

“We’re going to see that system pass during the week leading into (the weather) being a bit cooler on Saturday and then move off quite a bit before it will continue to heat up again on Sunday.

“(The cooler weather) will linger during the week.”

Sydney, which enjoyed summer temperatures at the weekend, is expected to receive 25-degree days until Friday, but there will be some cloud cover and an increasing chance of rain each day until the weekend turns conditions a little chilly.

Rain showers have also been forecast for the harbour city throughout the weekend, with temperatures dropping as low as 15 on Saturday and Sunday.

In Melbourne, similar weather should see the mercury drop to minimum temperatures of just nine degrees in some parts on Friday and 11 on Saturday.

The Victorian capital is expected to warm back up to about 25 degrees on Sunday as the rain and clouds pass.

Canberra will be less affected by the cool change passing over NSW over the coming days. 

The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted temperatures in the nation’s capital should stay around the 21 to 25 degree mark until next week.

The cloudy days are expected to stick around for Hobart, however, with light winds until Monday to cause colder weather and minimum eight-degree temperatures.

Despite the chill, Tasmania’s capital is not expected to receive much rain over the coming days.

Around the country

Further north, Brisbane is the only other eastern Australian capital not tipped for a cooler change before the weekend.

Despite a chance of cloud and rain over the weekend, the city is forecast to stay warm with temperatures around the mid- to high-20s before an increased thunderstorm risk early next week.

Adelaide is also on the warmer side of the cool change heading east. Clearing cloud should mean the weather stays around the 25-degree mark with the promise of sun on both weekend days.

It will feel much more like summer in Perth heading into the weekend with temperatures jumping each day until the weekend, when it could be as hot as 36 degrees.

Despite a slight chance of cloud, the weather will stay warm until next week.

Darwin will also remain significantly warmer than the rest of Australia as the mercury stays around the 34-degree level. 

The Northern Territory capital is forecast for a high chance of rain and thunderstorms each day until next week, however, meaning the summer-like conditions may also come with high humidity.
