Australian telehealth provider hit by data breach

An Australian telehealth provider has confirmed the contact information of patients may have been accessed by a third party in a data breach.

Updoc, a healthcare platform that offers Australians 24/7 health support online, confirmed some information of customers had been exposed after “a brief period of unauthorised access to a third-party system that we use to support our operations”.

“The access was isolated and involved contact information, which may have included your name, email and postal address,” Updoc said in an email sent to customers seen by nine.com.au.

The company insisted its own systems were not accessed in the breach, and that the health and financial information of customers had not been exposed.

“We took immediate actions to block the unauthorised access and can confirm there was no evidence of access after the initial event,” Updoc said.

They told customers that they did not need to take any immediate action, and that they had contacted customers “as a precaution”.

Origin confirms customer data stolen in cyber hack

Updoc told nine.com.au it took instant action against the threat.

“Updoc took immediate actions to block the unauthorised access and there has been no evidence of access after the initial event,” an Updoc spokesperson said.

“Updoc apologises to its customers for any concern or inconvenience this event has caused.”

The company was founded in 2021. It has an annual revenue of $10 million.

The latest breach is the third to hit an Australian company since the start of July.

Healthcare provider Partnered Health confirmed the personal health information of patients in 21 clinics across five states was at risk after the company was attacked by a “malicious actor”.

Later in July, energy retailer Origin confirmed some of the personal data of customers has been stolen in a suspected cyber hack, including phone numbers, the last four digits of credit cards, or the last three of a bank account.
