Australian government congratulates Cate
The federal government has congratulated Cate Blanchett for her win at the Golden Globe Awards.
The coalition also acknowledged the involvement of Australian film companies that worked behind the scenes on films, including Gravity, that secured awards and nominations.
Ms Blanchett, who also works with the Sydney Theatre Company, won the best actress award for a drama film for her leading role in Blue Jasmine.
Arts Minister George Brandis extended the government's congratulations.
"This, Ms Blanchett's third Golden Globe, reconfirms her wonderful acting talent," he said in a statement.
Senator Brandis said Australian production company See-Saw Films was nominated in the best mini-series or motion picture made for television category for Top of the Lake.
Rising Sun Pictures was involved in visual effects for Gravity, for which Alfonso Cuaron won best director and which was up for a best motion picture award.
