Australian ‘doctor’ urges western Muslims to join ISIL in new video from terror group

An Australian doctor has fled to the Middle East to work for terror group ISIL's medical arm, a new YouTube video has claimed.

The young man, who goes by the name Abu Yusuf, claims in the video to be part of the Islamic State Health Service (ISHS).

He said he fled from Australia to the terror group’s “capital”, the Syrian city of Raqqa, to help his "brothers and sisters".

"I saw this as part of my jihad for Islam to help the Muslims in the area that I could, which is the medical field and when I got here while I was very happy that I made the decision, and I was a little bit saddened by how long I’d delayed it," he said.

Yusuf, seen in the video treating babies in a modern, well-equipped hospital, also urges other Australians to join him overseas.

"After being here it’s disappointing to think how many fellow Muslim brothers and sisters who are in the medical field," he said.

"Doctors and nurses, physios and dentists are still living in the west and unfortunately here the Muslims are really suffering from not lack of equipment or medicine, but lack of qualified medical care."

The video has not been confirmed as authentic but was circulated on ISIL-affiliated websites.

However, Australian National University terrorism expert Clarke Jones said the video was genuine, the Herald Sun has reported.

"It’s appealing to normal, rational people within the educated young crowd and it’s not just about fighting now, it’s about going over there and supporting brothers and sisters in the Islamic State," he said.
