The Australian Electoral Commission has approved an application to register the Australian Conservatives as a political party.
South Australian senator Cory Bernardi established the Australian Conservatives after defecting from the Liberal Party in February.
"It's the first leg in a long journey to find a better way for all Australians," the party said in a statement on Thursday.
