Prince Harry leaves Australian team star-struck at Invictus Games

Prince Harry has been caught on camera playfully grabbing an athlete's nipple and also leaving Australian competitors star-struck at the Invictus Games in Florida.

Footage shows the young royal seemingly pinching the chest of a male competitor who appeared to be showing off his tattoo, as he met competitors at the international games for wounded and injured military personnel. 

The competitor, thought to be former UK rifleman Ashley Coles, can then be seen pulling an expression of mock horror before Harry slaps him on the shoulder and they both laugh.

Australian athlete Taryn Moran was overwhelmed at her own close encounter with Prince Harry.

He walked up and sat in the middle of the Australian team before their volleyball match, with footage showing Ms Moran - a powerlifting and team sports competitor - fanning herself and tearing up as the prince chatted.

The former Australian Army medical technician told 9NEWS her family were huge royal fans.

“I’m lost for words right now, as you can tell,” she said.

“To know that someone is there that cares and brings the whole world together, it means so much to us especially as an Australian.”

The Invictus Games is an international sports event aimed at inspiring and motivating wounded, injured and current and former serving military personnel.

Prince Harry helped to found the Games after a 2013 visit to the US-based Warrior Games – a sporting competition for wounded, ill and injured service members.

The Invictus Games builds upon rehabilitation and recovery programs for participating members, and includes sports such as swimming, track and field, archery, wheelchair rugby and sit-down volleyball.

An squad of 40 athletes is representing Australia at the Games, which run from today until May 12.

The squad is made up of 20 Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and 20 Returned and Service League (RSL) members.

The Games officially begin tomorrow Florida time, with an opening ceremony set to be attended by thousands.

First Lady Michelle Obama and Defence Secretary Michael Fallon will be among the attendees.
