Australian air strike kills ISIL commander and fighters in Iraq

An Australian air strike in Iraq has killed a senior Islamic State commander and 15 fighters.

The RAAF jet fighter, a Hornet bomber, destroyed the ISIL base in the Anbar province in early July.

Chief of Joint Operations David Johnston said the strike caused “significant disruption” of operations at the Daesh, or IS, base.

“This leader controlled Daesh operations in an area of western Iraq and directed attack planning and execution by Daesh forces,” he told AAP.
