Dangerous winds prompt weather warnings for WA but smoke haze clearing

Strong winds and warm conditions have prompted severe fire danger warnings for Western Australia today.

A strong wind warning is in place for Perth, the Lancelin Coast, Perth Coast, Bunbury Geographe Coast, Leeuwin Coast, Albany Coast and Esperance Coast.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a fire danger warning for the Ravensthorpe Shire Inland and Esperance Shire Inland regions.

The wild wind could also have a positive effect today, easing the smoke haze that has been hanging over Perth due to hazard reduction burns along the WA coast.

A cold front passing should bring some relief from the smoke in Perth tomorrow afternoon as winds shift northwesterly.

Meanwhile, a trough is bringing rain over south-western parts of the state with falls between five to 40 millimetres expected.

A weak trough is causing occasional showers in Tasmania with a high chance of rain in Hobart today.

Onshore winds are bringing light showers to coastal areas of NSW and Queensland.

Conditions in Sydney will be mostly sunny with a top of 24C today.

Residents are still being warned to expect possible smoke haze, mostly during this morning and evening.

However, air quality has continued to improve.

A belt of high pressure is keeping the rest of the country mostly dry.

A strong wind warning is also in place for the Far West Coast of South Australia today.
