AUSTRALIA'S COUNTER-TERRORISM STRATEGY

FIVE FOCUSES

1. Challenging violent extremist ideologies

* Working with communities to counter extremist propaganda and promote values and ideas which "underpin our society"

2. Stopping people from being terrorists

* Work closely with families, friends and community members who can identify individuals at risk of radicalisation

3. Shaping the global environment

* Work with international partners, like the United Nations, and build international capacity and capability, exchange information and undertake joint operations.

4. Disrupting terrorist activity within Australia

* Agencies to prioritise early disruption of planned attacks over waiting to gather evidence.

5. Effective response and recovery

* Federal and state governments will work together to bring perpetrators to justice
