Australia's Hepatitis A berries cases

HEPATITIS A CASES LINKED TO CONSUMING IMPORTED FROZEN BERRIES:

* 13 cases nationally: five in Queensland, four in NSW, three in Victoria, one in WA

* Linked to Nanna's brand frozen mixed berries

* Packed in China, imported by Patties Foods

* Chinese-grown raspberries, strawberries and blackberries; blueberries from Chile

* Source of Hepatitis A virus unconfirmed but berries only common exposure

* Precautionary recall of:

- 1kg Nanna's Mixed Berry, best-before dates up to/including November 22, 2016;

- 1kg Nanna's Raspberries, best-before dates to September 15, 2016;

- 300 gram Creative Gourmet mixed berries, best-before dates to December 10, 2017;

- 500 gram Creative Gourmet mixed berries, best-before dates to October 6, 2017.

* Hepatitis A viral disease that affects the liver

* Incubation period of 15-50 days; average 28 days

* Person with Hepatitis A infectious from two weeks before they show symptoms to one week after they develop symptoms.
