There are considerable implications for Australia and New Zealand from the fallout of the Brexit decision, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says.

The prime minister has spoken with his Kiwi counterpart John Key on dealing with the UK's decision to leave the European Union, which fall not only on trade but the movement of people.

"There are some big issues in terms of the access of Australians and New Zealanders to Europe and, indeed, to the United Kingdom, a whole lot of issues to work on," Mr Turnbull told reporters in Adelaide on Monday.

Mr Turnbull has vowed to prioritise talks with Mr Key on maximising opportunities for both countries if the coalition is re-elected on Saturday.

Both leaders would meet shortly after, nutting out a plan to ensure the interests of Australians and New Zealanders and businesses were protected.
