Australia will provide transport helicopters to carry out assessments and provide relief to outlying islands in the wake of the devastating tropical cyclone Winston.

Defence Minister Marise Payne says two Orion aircraft remain on standby, along with HMAS Canberra, to provide assistance to Fiji if required.

A Globemaster with personnel will arrive in Fiji on Monday, as the defence force works with New Zealand and other Australian agencies to ensure a coordinated response, she told the Senate.
