Aust gets approval for US bombs purchase

Australia will spend half a billion dollars on US-made precision guide bombs and equipment.
The deal comes after the US State Department on Thursday approved the $US386 million ($A508.10 million) sale of almost 3000 GBU-39 bombs and up to 50 related guided test vehicles and other equipment.
The GBU-39 is a bomb that can be fitted to war planes and its compact size allows an aircraft to carry a higher number of missiles.
