Aussies thrash NZ to win First Test

Australia have claimed the First Test against New Zealand after another dominant bowling display at the Gabba.

The Black Caps, who resumed day five at 3-142 chasing 504 for victory, were bundled out for 295 in their second innings.

Mitch Marsh provided the breakthrough for the home side, picking up two wickets that included the key scalp of an unlucky Brendon McCullum.

The New Zealand skipper was cruising on 80 runs when he was wrongly dismissed for 'edging' a ball into his pads and to second slip.

Video replays showed McCullum didn't hit the ball, but he was forced to walk because the Kiwis had run out of challenges.

Test cricket's decision review system allows each side two unsuccessful challenges per 80 overs. New Zealand had another up their sleeve, eight balls later.

Whilst the Aussies were gifted McCullum's wicket, no amount of luck was required to dismiss the remainder of New Zealand's batsmen.

Mitchell Johnson sent Jimmy Neesham (3) packing with a nasty bouncer that resulted in a simple catch at silly mid-on, off-spinner Nathan Lyon ended the match with three wickets after dismissing BJ Watling and Josh Hazlewood used his pace and bounce to finish with his own two wickets.
