A simple typo has turned an Australian souvenir jumper into a hot-ticket item among tourists in Sydney.

The China-manufactured apparel has found its way to a number of souvenir shops in the harbour city, despite welcoming tourists to "Dwon under".

One vendor told A Current Affair it was a difficult task to have the limited-edition jumper corrected by the manufacturers, so instead the company advised retailers to knock the price down - which has made it a popular item with shoppers.

"Some people recognise (the typo) but they don't mind because it's a good piece anyway," another shopkeeper said.

However, A Current Affair's poll of people on the street showed that many had simply overlooked the typo - though they found it amusing when it was pointed out.

"Dwon under, okay, why is that dwon under," one woman said.

The jumpers are on sale around Sydney at the discounted price of $10 apiece.
