Aussie in line for $1 million Super Bowl ad prize

It's an ad that will make you cringe, make you laugh, and could make one budding Australian videographer $1 million.

Sydney man Tom Noakes is one of five finalists in the global competition to create an ad for Doritos to play at the Super Bowl with his hilarious creation filmed right here in Australia.

The 30-second clip, which has already been watched online by almost 2 million people, stars Australian actor Sam Glissan questioning a "magical" device that cleans his fingers of cheesy Doritos residue.

The side-splitting and gut-turning moment comes when the "magic" is revealed in the shape of portly balding man in an office awaiting another finger to lick.

Noakes is now competing with four other finalists – all pros from the US – for the $1m prize in Doritos' annual Crash The Super Bowl competition in the first year it's been opened up to entries from around the globe.

If he wins enough votes his ad will also be played to more than 100 million people in the Super Bowl's prestigious half-time ads line-up.

Noakes says his inspiration for the ad came "from a familiar problem" all Doritos eaters have experienced.

"I thought of a magical machine that would clean your fingers and then thought it might be fun if it wasn't so magical, it was a little bit more unexpected," he told the TODAY show.

His star Glissan, who he said "jumped straight in ... finger first", revealed there was no stunt double used in the ad.

"I'm an artist," explained the curly-haired actor, who says he can no longer enjoy "a relaxed coffee or beer anymore" with his newly-discovered fame.
