Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer facing harassment allegations

Newly re-elected Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer is facing allegations he threatened a personal trainer at a Sydney gym.

Mr Mehajer, who was re-elected last week despite repeated calls for him to step down, is accused of verbally threatening Bruce Herat, the father of Sydney Siege survivor, Joel.

During a confrontation at Anytime Fitness in Burwood, Mr Herat reportedly asked Mr Mehajer to stop dropping weights on the gym floor.

Mr Mehajer allegedly responded, “Don’t you know who I am?”, before following the personal trainer to his car.

Mr Mehajer then allegedly continued, “I’m Salim Mehajer, I’m going to take this further, I’m going to find out where you live and have your kids kidnapped.”

NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione asked for any witnesses to the alleged incident to come forward.

“We’re calling on any member of the public that might have information in relation to that, please come forward,” Comm. Scipione said today.

Local Government Minister Paul O’Toole said the allegations were being investigated by police.

Mr Mehajer was thrust into the public spotlight when he threw a lavish wedding last month, involving helicopters and luxury vehicles.
