A man has been charged over an attack which allegedly left a 50-year-old woman unconscious on her way to work in Sydney's west last week.

The 36-year-old man was arrested at St Mary's bus station on Saturday, after transport police were called to an argument in the area.

He has been charged with aggravated assault.

Mrs Pearce didn't know what had happened to her until police checked CCTV which allegedly shows her being punched in the face near the junction of Joseph and Amaroo Streets.

Her husband, Jeffrey Pearse, took her to hospital for treatment for facial injuries, and appealed for help to catch the offenders.

Police later released a photo of her bruised and bloodied face.

The 36-year-old was also charged with resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, in relation to the bus station incident.

He was refused bail and will appear at Penrith Local Court later today.

On Friday, detectives also executed a search warrant at the address of a 27-year-old man, and seized a number of items for forensic examination.

Mrs Pearse was treated in hospital and is now recovering at home.
