Asylum seeker treated for heart condition
A suspected asylum seeker has been transferred to Christmas Island to be treated for a heart condition.
Immigration Minister Scott Morrison said the person, who was subject to a current border protection operation, was moved to Christmas Island for "urgent" medical treatment on Friday afternoon.
"As a result of our maritime operations during this latest reporting period, one person was later today transferred to Christmas Island, who was subject to a current operation, for urgent medical treatment in relation to a heart condition," he said in a statement on Friday.
Mr Morrison said he became aware of the matter following the conclusion of a Senate inquiry.
"(I) was advised that this person was transferred at the earliest possible opportunity."
