Asylum seeker murder accused stays jailed
An Iranian asylum seeker who allegedly fatally stabbed his sleeping flatmate and badly wounded another in Sydney's west will remain behind bars.
Javad Heydari, 35, from Afghanistan, was due before Burwood Local Court on Monday, facing charges of murdering 41-year-old Mohammed Ali Nabizada at their Berala apartment in the early hours of September 5 last year.
Additional charges of wounding with intent to murder have been laid against him for allegedly stabbing and puncturing the liver of another flatmate, 26-year-old Rauf Hassani.
Heydari, who is living in Sydney on a bridging visa, did not appear during a brief mention at Burwood Local Court on Monday.
His matter was adjourned with prosecutors saying they were waiting on post-mortem examination results.
Bail was refused.
Heydari is next due to appear before Burwood Local Court on March 10.
