Man fighting for life after being found in street following serious assault
A grandfather is fighting for life in hospital after being found lying in the street with serious head injuries in Adelaide.
David Pentland, 59, was left with serious head injuries after being attacked near his Peacock Street home in the northern suburb of Elizabeth Downs.
His friend John was him when he says a stranger knocked on the door on Friday night.

He fears it's a case of mistaken identity, but police believe it wasn't a random attack.
"I just heard a commotion out the front, then someone banging on the door. David said 'who is it, who is it' and then there was a bit of commotion," John said.
A short time later Mr Pentland was found lying on the street.
Another witness told 9News he heard arguing before seeing a man hit the victim and walk away.

Mr Pentland was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with life-threatening injuries, SA Police said.
Police are still searching the scene, with the attacker on the run.
Detectives were seen pulling a bloodied piece of wood out of a bin and bagging it as evidence.

"Detectives do not believe that it is a random incident," SA Police said in a statement.
