Arthur the baby koala to make full recovery from severe injuries

A koala joey has undergone life-saving surgery in Melbourne for injuries, believed to have been sustained from being hit by a car.

Arthur the koala was found on the side of a Victorian road yesterday, limping and dehydrated.

A concerned motorist rushed Arthur to Healesville Sanctuary, where an x-ray confirmed the nine-month-old had broken his arm and femur.

While his arm is expected to heal naturally, his leg required surgery which he underwent today.

Arthur's surgeon found a second, more severe, break in his leg which was not picked up in the original x-ray.

Veterinary staff have provided Arthur with a teddy bear for comfort and security, while separated from his mother.

It is hoped he will be back in the wild, and feasting on gum leaves in no time at all.
