Mysterious abandoned army tank found on Sydney street

An abandoned army tank found on the side of the road in Sydney's south-west overnight has left locals baffled.

The giant tank was spotted by passers-by sitting on the roadside in Revesby, puzzling residents and police as to where it came from and how it got there.  

"We were just very surprised, we've never seen a tank before," one man told 9News.

"If it was mine I'd pimp it out, paint it purple or something."

As it turns out, this isn't far from what the new owners had in mind.

9News can reveal the tank was originally purchase at an auction in Wagga Wagga and towed to Sydney to have its flat battery replaced by a mechanic.

It is then set to be painted in white camo and used as a custom wedding vehicle for some adventurous brides and grooms to make an impression on their wedding days.

The tank is likely to be stationed by the side of the road for a number of weeks.

This is because it hasn't been started in more than 30 years and will take significant effort to restore it to working condition.
